American Legion’s Flag Essay Contest winners announced.

The purpose of The American Legion of Iowa Essay contest is to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation for the United States Flag on the part of elementary-level students. Other objectives of the contest include the ability to gain knowledge of flag etiquette and respect for the flag.

With the goal of developing a deeper knowledge and appreciation for the United States Flag, the American Legion sponsors a Fifth Grade Flag Essay Contest.

Canuso, 10, a fifth grader at Carroll Middle School, was selected as the winner of this year’s American Legion flag essay contest for his class. Various American Legion posts partner with area classes each year for the contest. The Breda American Legion organizes the contest for Logan’s fifth-grade class at Carroll Community Schools.

State and Local Oratorical Contests Arrangements for contests leading up to the department finals shall be the responsibility of each American Legion department. For competition prior to the department finals, the contest rules and regulations are not mandatory; they are offered as guidelines.
